He walks among us...

Who walks among us? HE does, of course. You know....Bigfoot. And it's me.

The average shoe size for women in Australia is about a 7 or 8 by US measurement (That's about a 38-39 in European sizing). On a good day, I can get away with size 11 (42) shoes. On a REALLY good day, I can squeeze into a 10 (that's a 42). So, you can see that my feet are pretty huge.

Luckily, I'm kinda tall, so my feet don't look hugely out of proportion to the rest of me.

See? They don't look too bad, huh?
Yes, that's a Krillin. And I don't really HATE dubstep, but there
are a LOT of things that I would rather listen to...

But then you compare them with something, and can really see how big they are. Until standard tissue boxes are increased in size by about 20%, I will never be able to wear tissue boxes as shoes. I haven't yet decided if that's a good thing...

That's quite a bit of overhang!

Mum used to say that I could save a lot of money as a swimmer, because I wouldn't need to buy flippers. She first said this back when I was aboooooout....ten years old, I believe. Her feet are a bit above the average size, round about a size 9. When I was ten, I could comfortably wear her shoes.
As it stands now, I have the same size feet as most of my male friends. This means that when we go bowling or ice skating, when the person behind the counter asks for shoe sizes, I can just wait for one of them to give their size and then say "same for me, please!".

But there is most definitely a bad side to being a girl with giant feet. It's much easier to get your feet stepped on, but that doesn't really bother me at all. It's finding nice dress shoes that's the problem. Basketball shoes, Converse and other sweet kicks aren't a problem, because I can just get men's sizes. However, if I need some nice shoes for work, or for a formal occasion, excursions to shoe stores almost always end in disappointment.
I'm pretty much used to that now, though. Sometimes I even like to have a little fun with the staff of shoe stores:

*Here I am looking around in a shoe store*
Shop assistant: "Hello there, can I help you?"
Me: "That depends. What's the largest size you carry in women's shoes?"
Shop assistant: "Oh, we go ALL the way up to a 40!"
(She seemed genuinely proud of this)

It was at this point that I shook my head, pulled some puppy-dog eyes on her and said "I'm beyond help", and trudged dejectedly out of the store.

  1. That's not so bad. I've got the opposite problem. I'm a size 5... I usually end up getting kids shoes.

Anyway, as to the ridiculous number of comments tonight, you're welcome!

  2. Novo Shoes goes up to a size ten (and down to a size 5!) and even though the shoes are a bit expensive, they're really nice.
